Patrick L. Collis, MA, PI, PPS, BEA (Investigator • Protector • Instructor • Advocate)
The Founder and President of Spartan Investigations & Executive Protection, a Virginia-based investigative and protective services firm providing litigation support, intelligence operations, executive protection, and professional training. With extensive investigative and protective experience, Collis has conducted hundreds of investigations across the United States involving family law litigation, witness discovery, surveillance, asset investigations, and complex domestic litigation matters. Collis is also a Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS) Certified Instructor and leads Spartan Training Academy, where he trains investigators, security professionals, bail enforcement agents, and executive protection specialists throughout the United States. In addition to professional training courses, Collis develops premium Continuing Legal Education (CLE) programs for attorneys, designed to provide real-world investigative insight from a practicing private investigator. Several of these courses have already received CLE approval and are designed specifically to help attorneys better understand how investigative work supports litigation strategy, particularly in family law cases.
Professional Background Investigative and Protective Operations: As a licensed Private Investigator (PI), Personal Protection Specialist (PPS), and Bail Enforcement Agent (BEA), Collis has conducted hundreds of investigations involving: • Family law litigation support • Witness discovery and interviews • Infidelity and cohabitation investigations • Asset and financial investigations • Surveillance operations • Missing persons investigations and recovery missions: Collis has also provided executive protection services for high-profile individuals, including political figures, entertainment personalities, and nationally recognized experts. His protective assignments have included security operations supporting Team Trump, where his team protected senior campaign staff during national campaign bus tours. Collis currently provides personal protection for the legendary guitarist Buckethead (Brian Patrick Carroll). Buckethead is widely recognized as one of the most prolific and technically gifted guitarists in modern music, having released hundreds of albums and collaborated with major artists including Guns N’ Roses. Collis also serves as a personal protection specialist for The Behavior Panel, providing security for internationally recognized behavioral experts Chase Hughes, Scott Rouse, Mark Bowden, and Greg Hartley, particularly during major events such as CrimeCon.
Anti-Trafficking and Humanitarian Work: A central focus of Collis’ work involves combating human trafficking and protecting vulnerable populations. Through Guardians United Against Violence, a nonprofit organization partnered with Spartan Investigations, Collis participates in operations involving victim rescue, investigative intelligence, community education, and survivor support. Guardians operate under four mission pillars: 1. DOMESTIC VIOLENCE: Raising awareness, providing victim protection services, and helping survivors access counseling, legal resources, and safety planning. 2. TRAFFICKING & INTERNET CRIMES AGAINST CHILDREN (ICAC): Working with investigative teams and law-enforcement partners to identify trafficking networks, rescue victims, and disrupt exploitation. 3. EDUCATION: Providing community education, situational awareness training, and professional instruction to help individuals recognize warning signs of abuse and trafficking. 4. POST-CARE: Providing long-term support to survivors including counseling resources, mentorship, and reintegration assistance. In the past two years alone, Collis and his team have helped coordinate investigative work that contributed to the rescue of 13 children from trafficking situations. In situations where direct deployment is not possible, Collis and his team have personally funded overseas rescue operations, including support for trusted partners working undercover in Pakistan to secure the release of families held captive in trafficking situations. Intelligence later confirmed that those efforts resulted in the rescue of victims, including a young girl who is now safe.
Media Recognition and Professional Publications: Collis’ investigative work has received national recognition. He and Preston Hocker were featured on National Geographic’s television series Trafficked with Mariana Van Zeller, appearing in Season 5, Episode 6: “Inside America’s Militias.” His investigative work has also been covered by WAVY News 10, including interviews with investigative journalist Andy Fox regarding the JonBenét Ramsey investigation. Fox also produced a special television segment discussing Collis’ book Send Me. Collis and Hocker also appeared on the WAVY News 10 podcast “Inside the Investigation.” Within the investigative profession, Collis has been recognized by PI Magazine, where Spartan Investigations appeared on the cover of the August 2023 issue. For the past three years, Collis and his team have contributed monthly articles to PI Magazine, writing about investigative practices, security operations, and bail enforcement.
Aviation and Technology: Collis is a licensed FAA drone pilot, allowing him to deploy aerial technology during investigations, search operations, and security assessments.
Military and Early Investigative Experience: Collis began his career in the United States Navy, serving aboard the USS John F. Kennedy (CV-67) in the ship’s legal department. During his service he gained early exposure to investigative work while assisting with legal matters and supporting NCIS investigative operations aboard the carrier. Following a medical separation from the Navy due to injury, Collis continued serving in public safety roles. He worked within the Department of Corrections, where his investigative skills led to his involvement in Internal Affairs investigations. He later served with the Mississippi Highway Patrol as an Intelligence Coordination Specialist (ICS), further developing expertise in intelligence gathering, investigative coordination, and criminal analysis. These experiences laid the foundation for his career in professional investigations, intelligence operations, and protective services.
Education and Academic Credentials: Collis holds a Master of Arts in Human Services Counseling with a concentration in Criminal Justice and Ministry from Regent University. He also earned a Bachelor of Science in Counseling and Human Services from Old Dominion University, with a minor in psychology focusing on abnormal personality disorders, criminal behavior, and child and adolescent psychology. He holds professional counseling certifications including: Certified Alcohol & Drug Counselor (CADC) Certified Substance Abuse Counselor (CSAC) Earlier in his career, Collis served as a certified schoolteacher through the ACE Christian Education program, teaching religious studies at a private Christian school in Norfolk, Virginia.
Academic Honors and Leadership: Collis graduated magna cum laude while maintaining a 4.0 academic record, earning Dean’s List honors every semester. His academic achievements include: Member of the Virginia All-Academic Team President of the Honor Society Member of the Psychology Honors Program He is also an Eagle Scout (Class of 1996) and a black belt in martial arts. During college, Collis was a member of Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity (PIKE).
Instructor and CLE Course Development: Collis is a Virginia DCJS Certified Instructor and leads Spartan Training Academy, where he trains professionals entering the investigative and security industries. Author and Speaker: Collis is the author of the Amazon #1 bestselling book Send Me, which chronicles his experiences in investigations, protection work, faith, and humanitarian missions. His upcoming book, Here Am I, continues that story, reflecting on his upbringing as a military child and the experiences that shaped his path into investigative work and humanitarian missions. Current Investigative Work: Collis continues to assist in complex investigations, including ongoing investigative efforts related to the JonBenét Ramsey case, where he contributes investigative analysis and modern investigative perspectives to the decades-old investigation.
Faith and Personal Mission: Collis attributes his life and work to his Christian faith. He serves as a pastor, and his faith guides both his professional and personal mission. Tattooed on his arm are the words “Send Me,” taken from Isaiah 6:8: "And I heard the voice of the Lord saying, ‘Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?’ Then I said, ‘Here am I. Send me.’"
